Saint Denis Limestone Sculpture, 15th Century

Saint Denis (also referred to as Saint Dionysius) was a Christian martyr and Bishop of Paris who was beheaded during the Decian persecutions of approximetely 250 AD. The image depicts the traditional story that after his decapitation, Denis picked up his head and walked ten kilometres preaching a sermon of repentance.
